Why hello May-you’re here, you’re here, you’re finally here! Can you tell I’m just a little excited for the warm weather arrival?? By the outlook of all the festivals and food truck events this month, it seems like everyone else is just as enthusiastic at the prospect of being outdoors. From border to border NJ is going to be drawing some big crowds and dishing out tons of delicious regional food this month. As usual…get those calendars ready!

May 2nd – Tom’s River Food Fest;  Toms River, NJ: A family friendly event centered around food truck fare, shopping at the local merchants, and kid-friendly rides and entertainment. There will also be a beer and wine garden for the adult crowd. http://www.tomsrivertownship.com/index.php/Food-Fest/

May 8th-Middletown South Food Truck Festival; Middletown South, NJ: This is truly a family friendly foodie event. Pack your lawn chairs for a movie on the highschool football field while perusing the variety of cuisines to be offered by local food trucks. May 9th-10th-Mother’s Day Weekend at Crystal Springs Resort; Vernon, NJ: Crystal Springs Resort is celebrating the special day dedicated to Mom with a whole weekend of fun ways to celebrate. Both Crystal Tavern and Springs Bistro will offer special menus while Grand Cascades, Black Bear Country Club and Minerals Resort & Spa will host Mother’s Day buffets. Restaurant Latour will offer its full 5-course “Anthology” and 7-course Chef’s Degustation menus. May 9th-10th- Mother’s Day Wine Trail Weekend; Various Locations Around NJ: This is a tradition that is continuing on this year around the state. Participating wineries will be hosting events this weekend to celebrate Moms. Guests can expect activities ranging from special tastings, live music, and food pairings. These wine trail weekends (there are 4 every year) give the unique opportunity to try multiple wineries around the state in one day or throughout the weekend. You can also work towards filling those winery passports up as you check off another location from your bucket list. May 14th-17th – Jersey Shore Festival; Seaside Heights, NJ: A free admission event that glorifies the start to summer.  Expect live musical performances, a vendor village, charity events, and some sports thrown in there too! May 16th– Annual Chili and Salsa Cookoff; Tom’s River, NJ: This spicy event is a family pleaser. This festival will definitely liven up your taste buds-and taste testing will strongly be encouraged. May 16th-17th-Riverview Beach Park Wine Festival; Pennsville, NJ: Come enjoy a weekend at this historic amusement park for days filled with wine sipping and taste testing. Gourmet food vendors will be on hand to pair with your wine from nearly 12 vendors. May 16th-17th- Mayfest at Historic Smithville Village; Smithville, NJ: If you’re looking for a day of history, food, crafting and more, Mayfest is where to be. May 16th-17th– Laurita Winery Spring Food Truck Festival; New Egypt, NJ: Another food truck event on the horizon (there are SOO many this month) at Laurita. Your $8 admission includes parking, shuttle service, entry, and a free wine glass. There will be live music to sit around the campfire and sip your wine and chow down on food truck grub. May 20th -Husic Vineyards Wine Dinner at Restaurant Latour; Vernon, NJ:  Here’s an evening you won’t want to miss. Husic Vineyards is a young, up-and-coming family owned winery in Napa Valley’s prized Stag’s Leap district. Chef Anthony Bucco has created a four-course menu bursting with spring ingredients to pair with the wines. May 23rd -24th – Blues, Wine and BBQ Festival; Long Valley, NJ: Kick off your Memorial Day weekends with the Garden State Winegrowers Association as they present the first NJ wine festival of the season. 20 wineries will be partaking in the weekend of activities. Come to enjoy wine tastings, authentic BBQ, and the some blue music! May 23rd-25th– Jersey Shore Food Truck Showdown; Oceanport, NJ: The ever popular food truck showdown is back at Monmouth Park Racetrack as part of their Memorial Day Weekend celebration. May 28th-31st – NJ Greek Fest 2015; Westfield, NJ: This 100% charity event (proceeds benefit Children’s Specialized Hospital) is dedicated to celebrating all that we love about Greek culture. May 29th-31st – Riverfest; Red Bank, NJ: It’s back! The always anticipated, Riverfest is making its return this month to Red Bank. This food and music festival draws a big crowd so make your plans early! In additional to the ample food vendors and non-stop live musical entertainment, there will also be River cruises offered on the Navesink River, artisan merchants to pick up handmade goodies, and a children’s palace full of rides and games.  http://www.redbankriverfest.org/

May 30th– Hop Sauce Festival; Beach Haven, NJ: A day dedicated to Hot Sauce and Beer…what’s not to love? This beach town is bringing the heat with their lineup of craft breweries, gourmet food partners, and of course live music. May 30th – Jersey Fest Food Truck Mashup; East Rutherford, NJ: Rounding out the month’s food truck frenzy is the Food Truck Mash Up at the New Meadowlands Racetrack.
