My Charlotte journeys continue to grow as the months pass on! Last month I had my fourth visit in the past six months to the Queen City. I spent three days bouncing around for work activities, visiting my best friend, and of course continuing my food adventures.
Morristown has had some exciting new restaurant additions in the works for the past few months. Stirling Tavern is one of these endeavors! It took over the beloved David Todd’s space on South Street. I was a big fan of David Todd’s so they had a lot to live up to in my mind. Once I learned that the renowned Stirling Hotel would be taking over the reins I had high hoped for good things to come. (I haven’t been myself but have heard only great things!)
My husband and I have been trying to meet my grandparents for a double date dinner for months now! We hadn’t seen them since our wedding and we had taken our big honeymoon trip and they had just returned from a long cross country excursion. There was so much to catch up on. It was decided that there was no better way to talk about Paris than to eat in a true Parisian style restaurant. My grandparents were the ones who introduced me to the beautiful French city back when I was 12. So going to Pascal and Sabine in Asbury Par, NJ was all very fitting.
My best friend recently moved out of New Jersey and down to North Carolina. While I miss her terribly, the one perk of having her leave was getting to travel to a new place. She relocated to Charlotte and it is not a city that I have visited before. By the time she officially moved down there I already had flights lined up for my first visit. She took those first few months to learn the lay of the land and scope out the local hot spots. When asked if I had any special requests for things to do during my stay I had nothing to add to the agenda. In all honesty, I hadn’t heard much about the city in the past and didn’t know what it had to offer. I thought I would let someone else do the planning for once. My husband, on the other hand, had one item that was a non-negotiable. He wanted to experience Carolina barbecue. So here’s our first stop -Midwood Smokehouse.
I have another fun New Jersey restaurant review for all of you today. I apologize for my lack of recipe sharing in the past few weeks. The wedding appointments paired with attempts to fit in catch up sessions with friends and family has had me dining out way more than often lately. The good news about this is that I have so many food loving friends and the handful of restaurants I have experienced lately have really been top notch.
This restaurant review has been a long time coming. It’s not new to the local Morristown scene nor was it a first time visit for me (or even my 10th visit for that matter). End of Elm in Morristown has been around for nearly three years taking the old home of Hennessey’s bar near the train station. The restaurant has a gastropub appeal featuring refined American small plates and a great variety of craft beers and cocktails. I was quick to try it out when it arrived and I have frequented since. Why it has taken this long for me to do a write-up is a question I do not have the answer to!
I’m excited to share a new restaurant with all of you today! A few weeks back I decided to venture outside of my Morristown comfort zone in order to get some new dining perspective. One of my foodie friends and I decided that we needed to try something new and refresh our taste buds from the same old (while very good) restaurant repertoire. We drove up and over to Mountain Lakes, NJ to give The Station Restaurant a taste test.
The food craze that has become a New York City sensation has made its way to Morristown, NJ. Our town now has a casual service Ramen restaurant called Inspiration Roll!! In case you live under a rock and haven’t heard, ramen noodles are no longer just the cheap dried noodles we feasted on in college. Thanks to the likes of restaurants like Momofuku Noodle Bar among dozens of others, ramen has become a sophisticated noodle soup and a complete foodie cult classic.
Its burger breakdown number two today with Zinburger! I did warn you it was all about the burgers this week. If you missed the first post about burgers and brunch at the Committed Pig in Morristown, NJ you can find it here: http://www.behindtheplates.com/burgers-and-brunch-at-the-committed-pig-morristown-nj/
This week it’s all about burgers and The Committed Pig is the highlight today! First, I want to clear up any possible confusion about why I would post a detox recipe for my New Years resolution. But then, follow it up with a gluttonous burger experience a week later. I taste tested and visited the next 2 posts’ restaurants back in December. I took the opportunity during my holiday time off to test out recipes and visit some exciting new eateries so that I could bring all of you some great material for 2016.
