August Foodie Happenings Around the State

Here is this month’s edition of Foodie Happenings Around the State. This month there are quite a handful of winery driven festivals as well as some seasonal produce inspired events. I hope you’ll get out and enjoy some of these happenings. Summer is too quickly coming to an end so make it your duty to get out there and make the very best of what’s left!!

New Jersey State Fair; Augusta, August 2nd-11th: You have 2 full weeks to get over to the New Jersey State Fair. The activities at this event are endless. Check out the garden show, the livestock, carnival attractions, the delicious food vendors, a live circus and so much more. The fair has been running since 1919 and they continue to keep tradition alive with new exciting attractions and a continued dedication to our state agriculture. Just Peachy Festival at Tehune Orchards; Princeton, August 2nd – 3rd: It’s peach season and this weekend is dedicated to this juicy seasonal fruit. Enjoy a wide array of activities including wagon tours of the orchard, family games, canning classes, a farm to fork tasting, and even a winery tasting room. Admission is only $5 for this peachy keen event.

Ocean Township Italian Festival; Oakhurst, August 6th-10th: Come celebrate Italian culture and heritage at the 38th annual Italian Festival in Ocean Township. It’s an all-out fair with rides, games, and of course food! There will also be events and ceremonies over the course of the 5 day festival. Sign up for the WindMill Hot Dog Eating Contest or the pasta eating contest later in the week, listen to the sounds of the strolling Italian Street Band, and enjoy fireworks. Rock the Truck; Asbury Park, August 9th-10th: Downtown Asbury Park will be invaded and the streets will be lined with gourmet food trucks. Sample cuisines ranging from Mexican to Italian all in one spot! Also, in a town where rock music is legendary, it couldn’t be a more perfect backdrop for the second part of the this weekend, a music showcase! Head to Asbury for a rockin’ and deliciously good time!

Red Bank Cocktail Week; Red Bank, August 10th-17th: Red Bank has pulled together distillers, brewers, winemakers and more to bring you a full week of libations. It kicks off on August 10th with a party at Red Restaurant in downtown. Infusion classes, wine and dines, a bartender mix off, and a food and wine walking tour are just a few of the cocktail fueled week’s events. ‘Truck’ erton Food Truck & Brew Fest; Tuckerton, August 16th: This event is new to the town’s event line-up but it’s sure to be an instant hit! Jumping on the Food Truck bandwagon, Tuckerton Seaport will feature 20 vendors and live entertainment for the day. Bring down the whole family for an afternoon of finger food and fun!

Shore Chef Crab Cake Cook Off; Oceanport, August 16th-17th: Last year’s event was so popular that Monmouth Park has extended this event to become a whole weekend! Local shore chefs will be showcasing their crab cake making abilities. The sought-after Best Crab Cake and People’s Choice Awards will be granted to the chefs with the most superb cakes. There will also be other local food vendors on site participating in all the seafood madness.

Laurita Winery Food Truck Festival; New Egypt, August 23rd – 24th : It’s back! Laurita Winery brings you another installment of their Food Truck Festival. Pack up your beach chairs and picnic blankets for a day of New Jersey wine and gourmet food fare from around the state. It’s $8 admission (Kids are free) and of course you’ll have to pay for your food samples but, you’ll enjoy free winery tours, live music, and great company of course!

Bradley Beach Boardwalk Festival; Bradley Beach, August 23rd-24th: Enjoy a the day at the beach and stop over to this free event that will be running all weekend. Saddle up at the beer and wine garden, sample food from the local merchants, browse the over 100 craft and specialty vendors, or listen to one of the 6 bands or DJs that will be entertaining throughout the day.

West Cape May Tomato Festival; West Cape May, August 30th: Cape May plays tribute to a Jersey staple, fresh tomatoes! Make your own decision on who features the Jersey tomato best in their tasting dishes. While your there don’t forget to stroll down the line of artist and craft vendors.

Jazz it Up Wine Festival; Farmingdale, August 30th-31st: Allaire State Park will once again be hosting this music driven weekend. For $25 admission you’ll get to taste wines from around the state, appreciate the smooth sounds of Jazz, and take a tour of the historic Allaire village.
