The warm weather has slowly but surely arrived. I know that once the weather is nice I want to spend the majority of my time outside. I have pulled together some of the many food related events around New Jersey that will be running this month. Most of these events have one thing in common, they are outside (well two things in common because they all feature great food of course!).
Here are some great ideas to kick off your Spring, enjoy the great outdoors and indulge in local food!
Garden State Brewfest-May 10th Berkley Heights, NJ
Come enjoy a day of 50+ local brews, fantastic food vendors and live local music. For a $60 advanced admission fee ($75 day of) you can enjoy unlimited samples of all the local brews on hand and receive a souvenir glass. This year’s event is benefiting Hurricane Sandy.
Bring a blanket or lawn chairs to lounge on and listen to the band.*Note this event is 21 and over, not pets allowed, and no outside food or drink permitted.
Forks and Corks: A Culinary Experience at Maritime Parc-May 14th Jersey City, NJ
This culinary evening was put together to help fund Multiple Sclerosis research. It will showcase some of New Jersey’s most popular restaurants. Try some of the bites the chefs will be serving up along with wine and cocktail pairings. Tickets range from $125-$175 dollars. 25th Annual NJ State Chili and Salsa Cook-off- May 17th Toms River, NJ
This unique event will be fun family day. Be your own judge of all the contestants by sampling the fare. Take the kids to get their face painted or jump on all the inflatable rides. Sit back and enjoy the local live music or stroll the crafting stands.
Wine Trail Weekend Blues and Wine Festival-May 24th-25th Peapack-Gladstone, NJ
The Garden State Wine Growers Association throws a handful of festivals throughout New Jersey each year to celebrate our local wineries. The latest festival installment is approaching this month. It will be held at Natirar Park in Peapack Gladstone, NJ From noon -5PM on May 24th and 25th. It’s $20 for a one day admission. Your fee also includes a commemorative wine glass. Bring your own cooler of food for a family and friends picnic (Just no outside alcohol allowed) or choose from one of the many food vendors that will have food available for purchase. Lastly enjoy the featured live blues music.
Jersey Shore Food Truck Festival –May 24th-26th Oceanport, NJ
This year’s popular event at Monmouth Park Racetrack will be a 3 day affair. With over 20 trucks to choose from on each day it will be a deliciously good time! There will also be live music hosted by Thunder 106.3 radio station. It’s only a $3 admission to the park but, then you are on your own for the food vendors. Munchmobile Hot Dog Showdown: May 29th-30th Oceanport, NJ
Yet another Monmouth Park foodie event will be occurring this month. Head back to Monmouth Park for a day at the racetrack as the best hotdog and burger places across the state showdown their grilling skills. You’ll want to bring your appetite for this one. Admission to the park is only $3 (food vendors will be additional) but the whole family can enjoy some of their free activities like pony rides, live music, bouncy houses, clowns, etc.
Big Greek Festival 2014-May 30th-June 1st Randolph, NJ
For 44 years this festival has showcased and celebrated Greek culture and heritage. Join St. Andrew’s Greek Orthodox Church for authentic Greek cuisine, folk dancing, live music, shopping and more. There is something for everyone at this 3 day event.
Montclair Food and Wine Festival-May 31-June 2nd
The third annual Montclair Food and Wine festival is coming to town at the end of this month. The weekend highlights local chefs, restaurants, and local cuisine.
